Say your computer has a virus, does everyone you email or every web page you visit get infected as well ?
My sister has just told me that's what happens .. I don't know if its true or not .. because if that was true, would the whole web be one big infection ?

The short answer is no it is not true.

Can people you email get infected from your email? Sure if you send them an attachment or script that contains an infection. Or if you send them a link to a website that will infect them.

And no you will not infect the web pages that you access.
