How do you restrict program access by some users?

How do you restrict program access by some users?

I'm using XP sp2

 

When I right click on the folder or exe file I don't have a "Security" tab in the properties dialog box.....

I only have "General", "Sharing", "Customise" tabs when right clicking the folders

and

"General", "Version", "Compatibility", "Summary" when right clicking the exe file

 

Is this xp home or pro?

If home, you must do this under safe mode, using the administrator account.

If pro, you must open explorer, select the tools menu, folder options, view tab, then uncheck the "Use sharing wizard" (not this is what displays for vista, for xp, it should be the last option.

This will bring up the security tab.

I can get access to the security tab this way (I am using XP Home). However, when I open that tab I don't see the user account name in the permissions list. Shouldn't I be seeing their user account name as an explicit entry or do I need to dig around somewhere else?

 

Nope, if ye wish to restrict someone, ye need to ADD them, then restrict them that way.
