I have a Dell that came with a DVD holding VISTA with SP1. I must have uploaded SP2, and now I'm wanting to run a repair on my wife's Dell, but everything I read indicates you can't perform a repair unless the DVD holds the same version you are wanting to repair. So, from what I read, I figure I need to uninstall SP2. I do not see it on the Program list where you uninstall.

MajorFool - it doesn't appear in programs and I don't see the file they're talking about in Method 3. The restore feature only let me go back to six days ago - not sure how it determines when it restores - but I thought I'd be ablt to go back further.

Now I'm getting an error regarding JScript.dll - it says it's either not designated to run in Windows or it contains an error. I then when I close that it gives me an error on Blackberry Messenger, saying it can't start. I also have Microsoft Explorer crashing. I would try a repair, but I can't find a way to uninstall SP2, as my Dell CD only is good for SP2.

Besides solutions to try to fix my issues, if I find someone who has a VISTA disk with SP2, can I use it, or is it only good for a certain computer.

Oh - and theefool - sorry I referred to you as majorfool - I was scanning.

    Thanks

Ah, what about, go to add/remove programs. Then on the left there should be a link for "View Installed Updates" Click that, and you may see vista sp2. Though, it may only be listed under its KB. Which should be KB948465

For the jscript.dll, make sure it is located under windows\system32

If so, click "Start" type cmd, right click, run as admin

    regsvr32 /u jscript.dll (press enter)
    regsvr32 jscript.dll (press enter)

theefool - thanks for that. When I enter (run) the "regsvr /u jscript.dll" I get the message "The module "jscript.dll" my not be compatible with the version of Windows that you're running. Check if the module is compatible with an x-86 (32 bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of regsrv32.exe"

Is there a reliable source that I can get a new version of this file?

I'm currently using windows 7, so, I'll have to build a vista VM to work with this.

Is this vista 32 or 64 bit?

Thanks, looks like I have to reinstall vista then. It may be tomorrow before I can get back to this. I'm trying to get my current computer with (now 3) installations running. XP, vista 32 and vista 64. All running on vmware workstation. So I can hope to screen shot what you need to do.

theefool - thanks for help. So as far as VM, I think you're talking about Virtual Machine. Sounds complicated - what's involved with that?

    You don't think I've got a virus?

It isn't really complicated. It just allows me to run multiple operating systems at the same time. If you know how to install an OS, then you can easily get a VM up and running. If that is you have enough ram and cpu power.

Okay, take your fist and smash the windows key (in frustration) and use another finger to hit R. aka windows key + r, brings up the run box.

type in: appwiz.cpl. (or just use the typical way to go to add/remove programs)

    next:

Check out pic 1, it points to "View Installed updates"

Then check out pic 2, there you will want to uninstall that.

I'll reply with a command line way, but it may be more frustrating then the gui way. Testing now.

Interesting. Okay, download, vista sp2: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...d5-f907-4406-9012-a5c3199ea2b3&displaylang=en

Do NOT run, download to a directory you can get to easily, from the command line.

Click start, then type in cmd (right click cmd, run as admin).

if you saved in default, hope it is here:

dir (press enter) should see, windows6.0-kbblahblahblah.exe

    if so, then type in:

    Windows6.0-KB948465-X86.exe /x:c:\getridofsp2 (press enter)

    now, type in:

    cd \getridofsp2 (press enter)
    Next, type in:
    start /w pkgmgr.exe /m:c:\getridofsp2\windows6.0-kb948465-x86.cab /up /s:getridofsp2 (press enter)

Wait, wait, wait, 5 mins, wait, wait, 10 mins, wait wait. you will eventaully, get a prompt for a yes no question on rebooting, yes, to reboot.

If you need screen shots, just give a shout.

Test VM, is now sp1. :)

I did the uninstall, after installing a ton of updates after the sp2 install with vista.

theefool - successfully removed SP2 - thanks. Then I found out that you can not repair VISTA, the only thing you can do is re-install it. Now that's "handy". Thanks again BILL!

This is where the real experts show their mettle. I will keep that in my archive.
Now I had to uninstal SP2 in VISTA from my sons laptop, as microsoft seemed to have made/ or, bodged the beta, and their earlier beta version of XP2, would keep threatening '0 days to shut down' shut down. Now strangley enough that version would uninstall , and allow you to update to the actual SP2 that was to be final.
