that is what I am trying to figure out, I have a lousy paper route that pays $100
a month, I only have $200 saved up, I am utting away $50 a month.I am sure I will get some christmas money and I am trying to sell an air hockey table and paintball gun but I still seriously doubt I will be able to get enough $ any time soon. I wanna get it by my birthday in feb but it seems like before summer break is a more likely goal.oh yeah, $1000 is the price of the PC, I need a monitor too

Back in the dark ages when I was your age, it wasn't that tough. I could actually find jobs weekends and nights. (Started paper routes at 12, by 14 I was big enough to find actual jobs.) Child labor laws have done away with most of those though. Sounds like you're making a serious effort towards it, and perhaps your parents will honor your hard work at Christmas. In the mean time, ask around about any odd jobs you can do for folks that pays. Check with parents, neighbors, relatives, anybody you know, and ask them to keep their eyes open for anything promising. Adults call that "networking", and do it regularly. ;)

    Good luck!

I don't know where you live, but it's likely too late in the year for cutting grass (which you CAN do, and pays pretty well), but if you're far enough north for snow, you can shovel sidewalks and driveways in your neighborhood this winter and earn extra money that way. It's fall; leaves in yards; ask neighbors if they'd pay you to clean up leaves. There are still a few things kids can do to earn money if they really want to.

When I was 14 I was always trying to save enough money for a Superman comic.

But really, most ads I see for Dells and the like have a monthly payment option. With a decent down payment, and your parents backing you up, $50/ month ought to be more than enough.

I have looked around for better jobs but I can't really get a decent job until I am 16 I live in western oregon, I do yard work and stuff sometimes but all I can do now is rake leaves, and my lawnmower barely works now so I can't cut grass even if it is dry enough ever :/ I guess I will just have to wait and try my best at finding work, my parents don't have the money to loan me or they probably would.I have had my paper route since I was 12 and it really sucks, ugh, weekend morning delivery, I have to get up at 5:00 AM tommorow, the day i turn 16 I am ditching this job and finding a real one.

I'm wondering where in W. Oregon you are, and if you are anywhere near me. Heck, I have a ton of stuff I need doing around here. PM me your location if you are anywhere near Eugene/Springfield.

NB: Don't post your location publicly or even to me in a PM if your parents wish you not to do this on the net :)

Oh ok.....well it was worth a try incase you were in the same area. Occasionally pass thru your way going to Salem where we have family too.

This time of year is great for getting rigs dirty...get asking the neighbors if you can clean their vehicles. Any good at cleaning windows? Babysitting service? See if anyone has pop bottles you can take to the recycler and keep the money on them. All sorts of ideas if you are willing to graft for it, which it sounds like you are :)

Actually, I never got any allowance when I was a kid. Just had find ways of earning my own cash.

The only other alternative is to build your own (or get friend to), and buy it a bit a time. That's what I used to do years back, anyway.

ok. this is how to get work. ADVERTISE!!

( i am hoping you have at least a simple printer) print out simple leaflets stating that you are a student looking for any work experience. cheep rates, etc., is there anything you can do to help them??. deliver them with your papers, and anywhere else there is easy access to high population (such as out side the supermarket).

    this will get you work.
be flexible with the jobs you take.

discuss everything with your parents, and ask their advise on what to charge to whom for what. (obviously mowing the lawn for some sweet little old lady comes cheaper than digging the hole for someones new swimming pool)

i know this sounds ridiculously simple, but i swear it works. what happens is that ONE person gives you a job. and you are polite, and conscientious, and hardworking, and happy to help.

and they will find you more work.

    much aloha

I'm really glad to see you working so hard at earning the money to buy a computer. Like Lev said, I have tons of stuff I would love to have you do tht I could pay you for, but you are in the wrong state.
I like the advertising idea - it works well for my son. Also, look for older folks who might need help. My mother lives alone now, and pays a kid to come over and haul out the garbage cans, change lightbulbs, carry groceries, take care of the recycling and run to the store. A lot of older folks would love to have an honest reliable young man to help out, and many of them can teach you a few things, and just enjoy talking to you. Good luck !! :)

Perhaps you could shovel snow.Winter is almost here after all. When I was about 14 or 15 years old,I would shovel people's driveways and sidewalks for $10 bucks a pop.Sometimes I would earn $80 or more in a day.

No snow down here in the valley. He would have to move about 20 miles up the mountians :) Now, giving people free boat rides when they get flooded out and stranded...that could be an earner ;)

That was one of my old money-making things. And if they said they didn't have any snow to clear, sometimes we'd climb up on the roof -and give the snow pile a shove. They did then, LoL! ;)
