For probably around $950 here is what i get.

    Coolmax 500watt PS
    P4 3.4 775, 800fsb, Hyperthreading
Asus P5AD2-E Premium (dual nics, wireless, 925xe chipset)
    2gb PC533 DDR2
    Aopen Geforce 6800gt 256mb 16x PCIE
Plextor 716 Dual Layer DVDRW 16x

I'm no expert by anymeans, but I do think the concensus seems to be that AMD is the way to go for gaming. Plus they are a tad cheaper.

I would ditch the intel cpu and go for a AMD64 3500+ or better. The only problem is you'll also have to go with a different motherboard. But I'd say you're on the right track with ASUS.

I would go with the ASUS A8N- board either SLI or not, kind of depending or you future thoughts.

And a 300gig is pretty big. But if you're going to be needing it then that should be fine for you.

And last but not least. I would probably go with at least a 6800 Ultra if you are building a gaming system. Just so you can be rest assured you aren't going to have any problems playing games for awhile.

The new COD2 and FEAR are pretty intense as well as BF2.

These are all just my opinion though. Some others might say something different

I agree with Tymeks. Dual Core Athlons do what they say on the tin, but Intel procs kind of emulate dual core with hyper-threading. Go with an AMD and juice up the graphics card and that is a kick ass system!!

I'm running the same processor with no problems at all. My video is also no problem no matter what I play(including BF2). I like AMD and Intel both but a good rig is a good rig no matter who makes it :)

Might as well get the most bang for your buck, however.

either way its a good computer thats all he was askin
personally i'd go with a 3700 or 4000 sd core for the extra cache on chip if i was goin amd :)

  7. ASUS

    ASUS MajorGeek

    For $950 not bad.

    But for me.
First thing I'd go AMD Athlon 3700 San Diego, with Asus or DFI MOBO

Then the next thing I'd be worried about is your choice of PSU, this is no area to skimp on, I'd set my sight's for better Quality.

HDD, I'd go Maxtor Diamondmax 10 SATA with 16mb cache

I never did like Thermaltake cases, overpriced, Look cheap ta me, and I like cutting holes in mine I hate to cut holes in $100+ case
