    1. Buy real copy in United States.

    2. Ship to China.

    3. Make one million fake copies, ship back to USA.

Someone at Microsoft desperately needs a security update on their concept of reality. :-D

Well i would wager that phyiscal discs mean more access to source code, but thats not always the case and i may be wrong. But not having the discs would probably make it at the very least harder to access the code.

I think the Only way MS could stop pirated copies of their OS is to put something in it that would completely disable internet capabilities if you don't have a key.

I'm sure that's not even possible, but thinking that would do the trick.

Who knows...maybe they did make it very hard to copy the original disk, but haven't they heard of Fed Ex? ...to gman's point. :-D

It wont Laura, the only way MSFT can hope to stave off warez is to offer Windows at a cheaper rate, they are doing this now with good upgrade offers, UK rate is £24 for Pro, electronic DL and physical DVD at £49, so a good offer.

But that price needs to stay and more sold will make more $$ than less at higher rate.

The verification servers at MSFT are better these days at working out hooky keys and fudged registries/bios hacks.

Here in The States, Fry's is selling the Win 8 upgrade (basic, not Pro to upgrade from XP, Vista or 7) for $70. An upgrade from Win 8 basic to Win 8 Pro runs an additional $70 for a total of $140. Yes, it's two separate upgrades; I have a feeling this will confuse the hell out of people who aren't computer savvy.

A full OEM copy of Win 8 at Fry's is $85; OEM 8 Pro is $125.

In loading a Pro version TechNet copy of 8 Pro on one of my PCs a few weeks ago, I noticed a major change is that Win 8 requires your COA (activation) code as the first step in the install, much like MS-Office. Unlike 7 and before, it appears there is no 30 day grace period for activation.
