How Long We Can Use Laptop?

I've seen people render a laptop inoperable in hours by doing something stupid. Dropping it or starting to clean out files that the operating system needs would break it quickly.
Also read reviews. If a laptop overheats because of a hardware problem, it will die quickly. Just like cars, some models are lemons and you have to know what to avoid.

On the other hand, I used a laptop from 2000 to 2010. Granted it had to be plugged in and I didn't want to spend the $$$$ for a new battery. Towards the end, I simply used it to watch DVDs.

Our current two netbooks were purchased in 2011 and 2013 so they are being used for 9 and 7 years because we don't do stupid things.
The 2011 unit needed a new battery and I purchased that in 2017.

I also make images every 4 - 6 weeks because bad Windows patches or a program that didn't uninstall well affected the functioning. I then restore the image and do the program updates but perhaps skipped the Windows ones until the bugs were worked out.

If you purchase a laptop with too little hard drive space (I've seen some with only 32GB of space), you'll get frustrated and want to get rid of the laptop soon.
