With all the freeware versions around and people like Merijin(hijackthis), I wondered how many people donated or purchased full versions and what not.
If so, where did you donate or what did you buy?

I donated to the author of Spybot. While not my primary anti spyware program, he still has done one hell of a job with that program and my hat is off to him for keeping it free. I use it all of the time as a backup check to my primary anti spyware program. You certainly don't see a person still not charging for the freeware after attracting millions in audience very much.

A few here and there. Limited to those that take credit cards though. I don't do PayPal.

I bought WinZip. Does that count? ;)

There is freeware now of this, but where was this freeware 8 years ago.

Though, you can still use pkunzip from pkware, if you can find it.

Now back in the early 80's where antivirus software was free was very nice.

I bought it back around 1995 or 6, and back then about the only alternative was PKUnzip, which sucked. License is perpetual, so all upgrades have been free and legit. But Winzip has never had a freeware version, just a trial version that never times out, so most people never actually buy it. Haven't played much with the freeware zip utilities, so I can't compare them, but WinZip has always been easy and versatile, even making self-extracting zip files is easy.

I dont think we should have to pay for compression utilities we have to have to decompress essential updates, bios's.ect,if I were using one constantly to save space i would feel obliged to pay though, saying that I think I should give getright a few ££.

suesman, ya it's freeware but, you're getting really good programs by guys who are giving it to you for free...and it's helping you a lot right?
i mean at this point, i feel, their stuff has helped me tenfold over...and figure why not toss them a little coin for their efforts...
