how many virus's have you had?

after reading through a few of the many posts like ( what firewall do you use) or ( whats the best free antivirus ) i was just wondering. how many virus's have you all had?. i myself have had two in six years. has anyone had more & have i just been lucky? i'd be interested to hear from you on this subject. thanks guys....

 

Haven't had any in 4 years. Use NOD32 Antivirus and Kerio4 firewall. Of course I'm pretty careful of what I download and what e-mails I open.

Guess I may be lucky also.

 

Your post interests me, because I've run into a few people who don't use either AV programs or firewalls, because they think all malware problems are hype. Viruses that got loose in my computer: two that I can point at and say, this is what it was and this is the damage it did. I forget the name of the first one. It came in from a friend and propagated script files all over the place. It was easy to fix and it didn't do any damage like erasing stuff, just kept making more and more of these files with .scr on them. The other was a nasty taskbar which I saw come in. I still don't know how I saw it, almost like peripherally. A website acted strange and I went looking for something unknown and found it in my task manager. That was nice, because it brought me to Majorgeeks. The malware section helped me get rid of it and it was a great relief!

However, the uglies my AV programs have caught and the creepy things the firewall has prevented from getting in and the invasion of spy rot that the anti-spyware programs have caught has been ... large. I wouldn't even want to count them up. The problem of viruses and other infectious critters has been steadily growing, and, seen from a more intellectual point of view, the development of an immune system for the silicon lifeforms is certainly a part of the development of this budding species as a whole.

I had several viruses when I first got my computer several years ago. Then I started coming to this site and following the advice of
http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=44525
I never had another problem.

 

I guess some folks just like playing Russian Roulette or maybe it's that "it can't happen to me" attitude (famous last words).
