How Much Charge

I keep repairing computers and spend all my spare time repairing them i charge various prices and i kind of looking for some guidance on how much to charge. For Different services. I do currently live in the midwest.

 

It is simple.
Set an hourly rate that you think is fair and charge a minimum of one hour for work carried out then charge cost plus a % profit for any parts you supply and fit.
This is a basic business plan.

 

What percent profit should i do on parts

 

Most PC stores around here put between 20 and 30% but as a standalone entrepreneur i think you would find 10 or 15% more realistic.

 

Just do good service at a fair price and word will spread.

 

On most common carry-in repairs I charge a flat labor rate ($80 for virus removal, $25 labor for most memory upgrades, etc.). I've found many customers are more trusting of flat rate versus a per-hour rate (One hour? Three hours? The customer doesn't know the rate until the project is done).

On PCs that are carried into my shop for repair, I can do several virus removals at once. You're not stuck in the customer's home for hours waiting for scans and installations to finish running.:zzz

For on-site service my rate is $60 for the first hour; $10 for each additional 15 minutes regardless of the work performed.

Finally, references and word-of-mouth are the best advertising you can get. This will help you maintain your prices even if idiots on Craigslist are cheaper.
