    in pounds?

I saw this thing on obese people
and this 13yo said he was 17 stones
    before the diet/clinic thing

but this other guy said he was almost 400 lbs?
    and I just got lost. . . .

    never mind
    14 lbs in a stone
    so 14 x 17=238

    thats a big 13 yo

so whats a half a stone called
    how does that work?

    half a stone
poorly. The stone is an ancient measure; they didn't try to slice things as fine or as accurately as today.

Wow that is heavy for a 13 year old.

A stone is 14 US pounds or 6.3 kilograms...whichever you prefer.

Either way the kid is obese!

Half a stone is called half a stone *grins* or 8 pounds. There are 16 imperial pounds to a stone. These are different to the pounds used in the US. Confused.... How about metric pounds too  hehe

Conversion calculator for all types of stuff

    http://convert.french-property.co.uk/

    Some examples

There are 16 ounces to a pound and 14 pounds to a stone (mot 16).

200 pounds = 14 stone 4 pounds as an example.

    220 pounds is approxi,ately 100 kilograms. Bazza

When I lived in England we learned 14lb to a stone. I've never heard of Imperial Pounds.

Stones, pounds, ounces are Imperial measurements. Spread from the UK to all parts of the old British Commonwealth.many years ago. Even canada, I guess. Bazza

Most of the world has gone metric, as Australia did about thirty years ago. Everything is sensibly in multiples of ten.

England tends to be more traditional, and has retained most of the Imperial measurements. Except the money went to New Pence (i.e. multiples of ten) long ago.

The U.S. tends to think it's somethng special, and has imperial, but it's own version of it. Much like the English language. it has it all right, but it's own version.

Yep, 14 pounds to a stone, 16 ounces to a pound. So to English, and a lot of Australians and other ex-British places, one may be 14St,4b., which. if my math is correct, would be 200lb, or 200/2.24 = 89.3 kg.

I still find it hard to visualize people's hieght in meters instead of feet and inches.

A carton of beer (24 cans) costs around AUD$33 which is around USD$ 25-26 depending on the current conversion rate. Price of a single beer depends on thesize of glass and delusions of grandeur of the establishment you are in. Bazza
