Irfanview is a simple program that will give you the ability to batch rename multiple pictures. You can also save the names of the files in a text file.

The easiest way to do this is by using the Thumbnail viewer. Navigate to your pictures using the dialog on the left side, highlight the pictures you want to rename, select "File" in the Thunbnail previewer menu, and then select "Start batch dialog with selected files...". Next select the "Batch rename" option top left. Just below that you will see the "Batch rename settings". Use the "Options" button to set your rename parameters.

In the same "File" menu of the Thumbnail viewer is the option for saving the names of selected files/pictures to a text file. The option is "Save selected file names as TXT..."

    Hope this helps...

If Irfanview doesn't suit your needs, this site lists a number of applications for organizing photos. You can also do a batch rename using the instructions here without any additional software.

    NP ecckles...

It's a small thing you may know already, but I thought I would mention it. When you want to select specific files from a folder (highlight them), hold down the CTRL key while you click on the ones you would like to select. If some or most of them are next to each other you can left click on an empty space and drag and pull over them or most of them to select them and then hit and hold down CTRL while you select any others in the folder you would like to select. You can even use the drag and pull over several groups in a row, and, as long as you have the CTRL key held down, they will all remain highlighted for you...

    Good luck with your project...
