I sent away some home videotapes to a company called Yes DVD and they created DVDs for me. I now want to make a safety copy on my PC hard drive. I'm running Vista Home Premium. Can anyone recommend a program to do this?

Keeping it within the MG family, check out:

    DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15

DVD Shrink is software to backup DVD discs. You can use this software in conjunction with DVD burning software of your choice, to make a backup copy of any DVD video disc.
Bazza's note: Only a 1 meg download, and has an excellent rating. :cool

You should just be able to open the DVD in Explorer and drag the VIDEO_TS folder onto your desktop or into any other folder.

In the unlikely event it has CSS encryption, use DVDFab Decrypter.

I used DVD Shrink to rip the DVD files from the physical DVD to my physical hard drive on my PC.....now I cannot figure out how to play the movie from my hard drive.....I do not want to burn a DVD copy....I just want to have a security backup copy on the hard drive, and also be able to view the movies from my hard drive.

    Thanks.

originally I had no idea ... I was hoping/looking for an "autoplay" file to click....based on an input I received 5 mins ago, I downloaded a program called vlc media player from major geeks, and that does play some of the files....i guess i was hoping there'd be an easy way to autoplay the entire contents of the DVD that I transferred to my hard drive...very complicated stuff!

Your software DVD player should have the option to open a file. Just browse to the VIDEO_TS folder and it should do the rest. I can't give you anything more specific.
