What are some good programs for detecting key logger and screen logger
malware? What might be some symptoms that this has been installed on a computer? I have 'malwarebytes anti-malware but it doesn't detect keyloggers so far as I can see.

If the keylogger is a legitimate one then MBAM will not detect it. It will detect keyloggers which are not from an established legitimate source though.

If you think you may have a keylogger installed then you should run through these procedures. READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

    Thanks Kestrel.
I actually posted this problem on behalf of a friend, tho I'd be interested too as have had a strange quirk on my computer over a year now. Are there any symptoms of infestation one might look for?

I actually posted this on behalf of a friend, but I would be interested too as have had a strange thing happen when dialing up. This has gone on for almost a year. I assume from your answer that MBAM, which I update fairly regularly, doesn't catch some of this stuff. I admit to being abit confused as to what would be a legitimate keylogger.. Does the malware remover-read me run me- overlook legit keyloggers as well? Its a big privacy thing for me. Also, what might be some symptoms of keylogger infestation one could look for?

What could some of the symptoms be? It could be that you experience a big slow down, delays when trying to do simple things, new desktop items could appear, or system tray icons, there might be excessive hard drive or network activity. Lots of things. You could run our procedures which I linked to, and I will let you know if anything strange is in there.

    Kestral 13,
    Thank you for the information.
The odd thing that has been happening for a long time happens maybe 3 or 4 times a month. When I try to dial up, I get an error message saying that the modem is already being used. Clicking on further information tells me that some other thing is using the modem, such as a fax. It tells me to turn off whatever is also using the modem, which is an internal modem. This goes on repeatedly, untill I turn off the machine and restart, which usually, but not always, ends the issue.[I have no fax machine,or anything else requiring modem use, am not on a network, just the one phone and computer.] I have always thought it was electrical interference, as the phone outlet is right next to the big refrigerator, which is usually cycling on at the time. So I wonder what this could be.

The only way I will be able to let you know if a keylogger is there is if you run the instructions I gave and attach the requested logs. Thanks.
