Hi - I have a HP laptop running windows 7. I need to disable the Realtek RTL8188CE 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter must be disabled in the BIOS. Can anyone tell me how to do this? Will this affect me being able to use my wi-fi connection or how would I easily enable the wifi if I needed it? I am doing a direction ethernet for Internet use. Thank you!

What are you trying to accomplish? You can turn off wifi without killing the adaptor

    Hi

What model HP Laptop do you have as disabling the wifi adapter will affect your ability to connect to wifi, so what issue do you have that you need to disable this adapter/driver?

Dont need to do this in the BIOS as just disabling it in the network properties or in device manager will be enough, some laptops also have a wireless button for on/off and that works to disable wifi also.

If you are using Ethernet then your internet is fine as you connect via that opposed to wireless.

Thank you for your reply. I am going to be doing some work remotely and one of the requirements is to have this disabled from the BIOS for the remote network. I assume if I turn it off I could turn it on as needed from the config setup screen?

    Ah ok I see.

I dont know the BIOS version your HP has but enter the BIOS and look for and enable/disable wireless adapter option and disable then save and exit the BIOS.

Yes you can easily retrace your steps and enable again.

Personally I would enter Device Manager and double click the Wireless adapter and disable from there, should do the same thing and easier to enable again.

Thanks for the input. I disabled it from the device manager but it needs to be done from the BIOS so in a Belarc report it does not show up in the communications. When I boot my laptop up and select f2 it brings me to several options to choose from but I can see the BIOS and select but not make any changes to it. This laptop is about 2 years old and I think they may have a new supposedly easy interface for people to use when going into their setup which is totally different than what I've seen before. Any suggestions?
