I did a clean install on a new build with a Win 8 disk only to find out it was an upgrade only version. Now I want to format the drive to do a clean install of a Win 7 OS, but I can't get rid of the Win 8 OS! Help:cry

Your Windows 7 disc will allow you to format and install the OS. You cannot format the disc from within Windows 8, it's like asking your machine to commit suicide. Describe the method you are using for more help.

    Thanks for your suggestions!

In between the time I lost my mind from trying to figure this out and when I posted for help on the forum, I booted from my Win 8 disk, hoping I would have the option to just format the hard drive. Eight hours later...my machine rebooted for the last time with a clean install that works perfectly! This is the same disk and product key that I used for the first installation!

Normally I need to know "why?", but this time I am just glad it is working!!

Thanks again for your quick responses! :)
