How to get into Windows XP ?

    My wifes computer has the blue screen also. It will not allow me to enter safe mode. How can I get to my important files ? If i can get to them then I can save to external hard drive and then reinstall windows.

    Can you pull the drive and put it in an external SATA enclosure?
    I recently bought one at Fry's for $20.
