I've read the threads here about the boot options of two systems, but didn't see the material referenced in the sticky thread. I tried what was posted about going into msconfig, but there was no option for removing 2000, which is what I need to do.

2000 is using a lot of memory and it is no longer usable so I want to completely remove it from my computer. I tried doing a clean reinstall of XP, but it didn't work.

Can anyone help me figure out how to get 2000 of my computer?

    THanks!

Last line should say "... off my computer?" Won't let me edit. :)

What problems did you encounter trying to do a clean install of XP that made it fail? :)

    Thanks for asking :)

First I had a problem trying to upgrade PC from 2000 Pro to XP home, so I got the disks that installed XP on my laptop. The upgrade option was not available through the wizard on disk so had to just install XP. After talking to someone about a clean install, I looked up how to do it, but it just reinstalled XP the same way, leaving me with two operating systems and no memory.

You could try downloading this and burning the ISO file to a CD or make a floppy disk, as both files are included in the download, http://www.majorgeeks.com/Dariks_Boot_and_Nuke_d4596.html. This program will "0" your hard drive and wipe everything that is on it off. Please make sure that you have no files that you want to keep on the hard drive that haven't been backed up to alternate media.

Then you should be able to do a clean install with no issues.

You may run into an activation problem, if you still have the OS still running on your laptop.

    Hope this helps! :)
