How to go from USB 1.0 to USB 2.0?

This (old) computer has USB 1.0 and it won't recognize newer hardware (external hard drive, digital camera) that are USB 2.0 compatible, regardless of driver updates, Device Manager manipulation, etc.
A year or so ago I added a PCI card with a couple of additional 1.0s, the unit came with two USB ports built in. Can I just remove this card and put in one that is 2.0? ...not that I've seen one. And if I find it, will the 2.0 be backwards compatible? Will the 'integrated' 1.0s still work? Or is it that my dinosaur has finally stepped into the deep tar?

    Thanks y'all!

yes, you can just get a 2.0 card, yes, the on board ones will still work, at 1.0, and yes, 2.0 is backwards compatible....thought im not sure how compatible 98se is

/me agrees with everything Dan says, especially the dubious nature if Win9x USB support.

You might want to update the chipset drivers to make those onboard USB ports to work.

USB 2.0 card should be fine.
