How to open Mac fies on a PC?

    Hi everyone,
    I'm brand new to the forum, and not terribly tech savvy, so, please, be patient.

    I have a mac hard drive with some vital files on it but only a pc to open them on.

    Some time, ago I had found a free download that worked great, unfortunately it was lost to a restore. Now I can't find one and haven't a clue what that one was called or where I found it.

    Any help is appreciated
