Does anyone have any idea on how to optimize your PC? I used System Mechanic PRO 6 but the trial period expired and 60 dollars is way too much for a piece of software. Have nay ideas on good system optimizers. I have a Windows XP DELL PC.

I highly recommend CCleaner. It's free, but I'd encourage anyone who uses it regularly to make a voluntary donation, as I have done. Be sure to uncheck the box for Yahoo toolbar when you start the installation, assuming you don't want it.

Of course, keeping your system cleaned of spyware/malware is also important to keep it performing well.

    Try using these program/utilities:
Advanced WindowsCare | Eusing Free Registry Cleaner | CCleaner

All three of these are freeware. You only need to run Advanced WindowsCare once in a while but if you run CCleaner and Eusing Free Registry Cleaner just before you close the computer every day/night, you will notice improvement in your systems performance; particularly if you are using the computer (and accessing the web) many hours a day. If you seldom run the computer; or use it for only an hour or so each day than run CCleaner and Eusing Free Registry Cleaner once a week and you should be ok.

Additional Note: If you liked using System Mechanic; you can get it for FAR less that 60 Bucks if you don't mind using eBay. Also you can get an older version of System Mechanic (like version 4) for even less. I have actually tested System Mechanic 4 and version 6 and they both will clean very well.

Most of the difference between them is v6 has a fancier interface. I've actually seen version 4 sell for around 15-25 bucks (with shipping included!)

    Good Luck!

I suggest that you download, install and test most of the programs listed on MG Must have free downloads page. Go to

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/page.php?id=20

Then uninstall those you don't like, or have found something better for you.

Most of these programs are great, are free, and will teach you lots about running / optimising / protecting your PC. I use lots of them. Bazza
