How to pis# Fred_G off! Pics too.

Well, I was trying my best to solder together a DB9 jack to some Cat5 when I get a call. 'There is smoke coming from behind your trailer'. Well, that kinda got my attention, looks like my neighbors are burning some trash, common practice around here, and legal, as long as you do it 100 feet from a building. Now we have been having some pretty dry and cool weather lately, and had a pretty good wind from the west. Not exactly the best time to burn outdoors, but with some common safeguards, it would be ok. Obviously, my neighbors don't have any common sense.

Ten mins later, I check on the fire, oh hell, this does not look good. Fire department has been called, the neighbor asks if I have a hose. I get one, cut the heck out of my hand, no big deal. The neighbor says there must be a kink in the hose. Nope, he broke the Y adapter on the hose. I resupply water. The fire department is here now, but the fire is a little too close for my comfort, so I stand out in the smoke, trying to help put out the fire, THAT I DID NOT START!

So after about 20 mins, the fire is under control, so I go wash my hands and clean up a little. I grab a beer and go back outside, more flames! So I get my hose, and try to put out what is in range of the hose. The fire department gets to the section closest to my house and puts the fire out. Fire truck leaves. Go back in for a min, yeah, I was out of beer...

I go back outside, nobody is there. I guess the neighbors went to start another fire somewhere else! There are still a few flames, so I spend more time with the water hose. All is well now fire wise.

So I am left with: a broken Y hose adapter, a gash on my finger, blood on my pants, red eyes, a tin can (my house) that reeks of smoke and a 60# house/yard dog that is freaking out. And I am a smoker, so that should tell you something about the smell! Did my neighbor say 'Sorry about that, it just got out of hand. Thanks for helping with the water hose'? No, I have not seen the A Holes since.

Now I do not want a medal or anything. I did not save a baby from a fire or anything like that. I helped protect my tin can, and helped my neighbor. A simple thank you would have been enough.

What has happened to common decency?

Oh, yeah, I will measure where the fire started, and if it was less than 100 feet from my house, I will file a complaint. I am one nasty a hole myself when provoked!

Sorry about the long post, and thanks for letting me rant a little. The fire stopped about 20' from my house. Too close for me.

Sorry ur neighbors r ingrates , happy you n your house are still hanging in there. Do something fun to get ur mind off it.

A pretty exciting day then all in all people can be jerks I hate it when I lend something out and it comes back broken and they dont say anything,why not just say 'I'm sorry I broke it':mad

Hey Fred G loved your "Rant" bro, and totally sympathize with you, Dang and you ran out of "Beer" Too.roflmao roflmao The older I get the more I think the worlds "Gene" pool is starting to get too low, and from the sounds of it you have a bottom of the "Gene" pool dweller as a neighbour. Just glad your sense of humour didn't get singed by the fire

Oh well, they are getting a complaint lodged about them.
All they had to do was :
Take a little more care
Take responsability for their actions
And be half-decent human beings

Judging from your pics, it is the kind of place you would think twice about lighting a fire in anyway. And I have to assume they walked off and left it unattended at some stage - real sensible

 

This is most likely my last reply in this post for now. Things could get legal. I have consulted with my legal person, and we will see where it goes.

Some may say I am being stupid in my actions, but I am just looking at options, after all, they could have easily started that fire 4 hours later and killed me in my sleep. Now I I love a campfire, but not in my house! I have been looking into places to burn the stuff around my house, but cannot find an acceptable place. I use some common damn since when I start a fire!

Kinda funny how a simple thank you can possibly avoid a lawsuit. (Yep, like I said, I am a total a hole when provoked.) And a fire that ends 20' from my house, well that provokes me. That takes a bit more than a thank you when I help put it out to save my tin can.

Well, I decided to leave them alone. If they start burning trash again, I will just go dump some water on them! There are already enough stupid lawsuits in our courts. And after all, what would I get from Bubba? A truck... got one. A single wide trailer... ahh, I think mine is in better shape. Heck, they don't even have wireless internet. To be honest, Bubba probably don't have that there interweb at all.

Be careful what you ask for BCGray, :cool I usually try to keep my posts count in Lounge, or Anything Goes sections of forums at a reasonable level. But where I live, north Louisiana, we have corrupt politicians (a local judge just served a 6 month suspension... for stealing! Back on the job now...), some of the worst drivers around, and I have a ton of crazy customers at my job. You want some rants, I can hook you up.
