    Hi all,

I've been rebuilding an Emachines E4252 that died from the usual cause ( psu + mb )

Replaced the mother board with an asrock n68c-s ucc and a 500 watt psu, also added a wifi card, everything else seems ok and running well.

My issue is I am using its original monitor but it dose not have a 12v speaker power socket :( I had been intending using a pair of 'diamond' 12v 4w 2.1 speakers I already have, to save cash and space (as opposed to a 5.1 set which I do not have at present)

I had hopped to use a 12 volt dc plug in the wall transformer that has the correct size of female socket built in, However It dose not work :( So I have tried finding a simmilar replacement on line but I cannot find anything, Tried all the usual places but all I find are male ends.

In the past I have used a pci power card but I was not impressed as there was some background noise, and by powering them independ from the pc I can use them with other things such as an mp3 player or dab radio etc...

Can anyone shed some light on where I could find a 12 volt transformer suitable for these 4 watt speakers

    (just to sum up)
the speakers have a power lead with a male end which would normally plug IN TO a monitor to receive 12 volts.

    Many thanks in Advance
    Brian :)

When all else fails, try eBay. Type the model of your monitor into the eBay search box. If you don't get any hits, you can try posting to "Want To Buy" ("Want To Buy" is an eBay option in The States; I'm guessing they offer it on their international sites as well).

Given you're in Scotland, be sure to buy from a European seller offering the correct plug type and input voltage: An adapter from the USA will be 110v (not 220v) and will be the wrong outlet socket type.

    Hope this helps. :)

Hey Guys thanks for you your replys, I forgot about radio shack in Edinburgh, might pop in there :)

I think the problem is what I am looking for is not a standard connection and goes against the grain as it were.

However I have found a female to female dc power connector online

Going to contact them and try to buy one from them

I think you can go through website seiberton. It may help you to get better transformers for your speakers.

Why didn't the original power adapter you found work?Did it just not fit?

First you need to look at the polarity on the monitor, adapters are not universal where polarity is concerned, look on the monitor where the power cable goes in you should find a symbol like this, for the power adapter to work it must match the picture on the monitor i.e the - and+ are in the same place.

Either way if you've got a 12v AC adapter I wouldn't bother buying that female connector just cut the two male connectors off monitor and the power adapter, bare the wires and twist them together, then put some tape round or heatshrink or even a multi block,I'd use heatshrink just because it looks professional but that's up to you.

If you can't find the polarity diagram and because its only 4w I'd try touching the wires together one way, hold them there and if the speakers don't fire into life switch the two wires round,of course make sure the speakers are connected to an audio source that you can hear once they start working such as a soundcard or ipod ect.

Its highly unlikely you'll break anything, just don't hold the wires together with the wrong polarity for too long,1-2 seconds.
