How to remove Ads from Chrome

Recently I have converted to Google Chrome browser, from MFF, which I am enjoying, but over the last few days I have gained underlined words on pages with ads that pop up when hovered over.
I searched web, and was advised to install the add-on Adblock, but this hasn't removed most ads, although each can be disabled manually when they appear. This is very tiresome due to the quantity on many pages/websites that appear!
Any further advice please?
Maybe how to tackle root cause, like what has made them appear, can this be reversed?
I am using top of the range up-to-date Trend, which in my opinion should have and still be preventing these.

 

What advertisements are you talking about, that Adblock Plus in Chrome is not blocking? Also screenshots of those sites you are getting them on.

Keep in mind, that you need to grab Fanboy's & EasyList for the two filter subscriptions.

 

I believe I only got Adblock....after it failed to stop ads I went to Chrome Store and couldn't find either Adblock nor Plus!
Its happening on all/most websites, where it chooses to underline texts, with adverts for mainly iphone5 & loans. Not at home (work), so can't do screenshots right now, but will later if necessary.
Note I am an experienced PC user and am very careful of what I install (I think!).
Why did I never get this with MFF(Mozilla Firefox)?

I don't understand your statement "you need to grab Fanboy's & EasyList for the two filter subscriptions", firstly it don't make sense, and what/where is it/them?

 

Click the Adblock icon top right > Options > Filter lists tab and tick the top two. That works fine for me in UK.

OK, I'm on that page now, and no ad. But I'm using Chrome with Adblock with Adblock Custom Filters and Easylist, not Adblock Plus. You could try that as an alternative,

 

Earthling, thanks....did exactly wha you said but STILL THERE (and every website incl. imageshack & here, MG)!!!

On a side note, I'm baffled as to how Adblock plus isn't better than Adblock!

They seem to be from CouponDropDown!

 

I reckon you have an unwanted guest on board. I'd d/load, install, update and run MalwareBytesAntiMalware

 

That seems to have done the trick, no more ads.

Whats worrying me is why my Trend Titanium Maximum security 2012 that does Virus & Spyware didn't detect this!?

That did the trick, thanks to everyone who helped me.
I think it is known as adware, whether that is a form of malware i don't know, bu the malware clean-up didn't shift it.
As I've asked below, I'm most concerned why my Trend Titanium Maximum security 2012 that does Virus & Spyware didn't detect this and the other that i removed!

I would love to hear reasons to ambush Trend.....
