Tried to remove avg several ways starting with the avg recommended methods to no avail
The above 2 appeared while loading safe mode in scrolled list which if I didn't happen to be
    watching would have slipped by.
These .sys program parcels do not come up as pernicious while searching with several uninstallers-
iobit, revo, e.g.. Just now after running iobit a message appeared 'icarus.exe update' which is apparently
an avg add-on to their free version, belonging to 'avast'.
How do I remove these blood-sucking lampreys please.....

Have you tried this? AVG Clear (Remover)

If that doesn't work then run the built in Windows Disk Cleaner
    • Right click the Start button then type disk cleanup and select Disk Cleanup from the list of results.
    • Select the drive you want to clean up, and then select OK.
    • Click the Clean up system files button.
    • Select the file types to get rid of (Device driver packages)
    • Click OK.
If that doesn't work then you can boot into Safe Mode and manually delete them. They should be in the C:\Windows\system32\drivers folder.

If they need to be force deleted then something like IObit Unlocker should work.

Much appreciated- wish I could describe what happened after safe mode but in short
got a message that windows needed to be restored do not turn off computer. 6 hours later
back to square 1. If/when I find anything further will post it....but not today!

See if you can just disable it. As long as it isn't running at startup then it isn't actually doing anything but taking up a tiny bit of space.

    Download Autoruns.
Open it and click the Drivers tab.
Uncheck the boxes next to Avgvmm.sys and Avgrvrt.sys
    Restart the computer.

Ran Autoruns which allowed removal of several AVG items but left 4 which would not budge.
Here's a snip of the remaining. Hopefully this will disable enough to cause dormancy!

That's a lot of junk. If it were me I would install AVG again and then uninstall it using IObit uninstaller then immediately run the AVG Clear Remover.

Restart and see what is leftover. Or not. It's up to you.

avg reloaded its full program without notice. Tried iobit uninstaller iobit unlocker avg clear remover unsuccessfully. avg just keeps jumping in trying to reinstall the full program. Think it may be time to change the hard drive. Truly a nuisance.

Is it running as a Scheduled Task?

Press the Win + R keys to open the Run dialog and type taskschd.msc into Run then click OK to open Task Scheduler.

It would be under the Windows dropdown I think.

Yes avg is running as a scheduled task. It appears in Task Scheduler [Local] which has no option for deletion I can see, and is absent in
Task Scheduler Library which does have the delete option.
    How about that.

Yea at this point I'm not sure what to suggest. If it were me I would backup my personal files and folders and do a fresh install of Windows. That would probably be less time consuming and less frustrating then trying to figure this out.

    Doing that.
Thanks for your attempt to fix!
