I have a customers laptop in the shop which has a Bios password. I need to get into the bios to change the boot order.
I know you can do it by removing the Bios battery but I don't feel like getting knee deep in laptop screws haha

If it is possible to remove another way I would be very very grateful of your advice or help.

    Thanks guys.

It doesn't matter I'm just gonna remove the battery after all.

I cannot remove the battery because it is intergrated onto the board, I have tried all the backdoor passwords for a Phoenix Bios(none of them worked)and now I am stuck again.

I did read that link you posted and it is interesting. I don't quite understand it though.
For instance the number I get when it disables after 3 attempts at the password is [00738] and I cannot make heads or tail of what it means by a 'generated password by the check sum' :S

I don't know why people put bios passwords on laptops if they are not going to bloody remember them!!!

Thanks again for more suggestions but even some of that doesn't work, for instance 'tap f12 to bring a box up' Nothing happens when I am presented with the chance to enter the password... I sent a E-Mail to Phoenix asking them about it but they were no help.

Just a random thought: what's the machine's make and model #? A year or so ago, I had a similar problem with a Lenovo, and the motherboard actually had a jumper for clearing the BIOS, which worked like a charm.

It's a Acer but I have already tried the jumper trick, no go unfortunately :(

I would of done that but the drive has been formatted and there is no Acer software remaining :( It doesn't matter anyway I just put Vista on it from the desktop with a disk and the customer was happy with that.

    Thanks guys.

For info: how is the installation of Vista solving the BIOS password problem?

Because I was trying to remove the bios password to change the boot order to install XP for a customer. In the end I just booted vista up from the desktop and formatted it... sometimes XP will allow you to do it but it was a 'corp' disk so it wouldn't give me the option to do so.
