Over the past week no matter how hard I try to clean up, add blocks etc, I still cannot get rid of these two annoyances that crop up on the bottom left hand corner of the screen, when I'm in Yahoo mail which seem to "hang" or really slow down my computer:

    pr.comet.yahoo.com
    s.yimg.com

I've not been able to find an effective solution to rid myself of these nuisances.

Can anyone help here with a definite solution?

    Thanking you in advance,

    LS

Have you tried using browser extensions Ad Block Plus or Ublock Origin?

    Have you run MBAM?

Yes - have Ublock Origin and Ghostery already installed. Even tried searching my computer for any related files to delete without success as well as checking out Task Manager to see if it was listed to delete.

MBAM? No. Now looking at Microsoft website to get an understanding of what MBAM is and its reqs.

Well, could go to my current service provider email, but can't do an immediate switch with so many current email folders currently in Yahoo which I've used without problem for years. Plus advising numerous contacts of the switch needs a concentrated effort which I will do but can't do so immediately right now.

Also, if you use AdBlock in Chrome, that appears to solve the issue.

You also might want to run ADWCleaner.

    Not aware of ADWCleaner

    Have and already run:

    · Malwarebytes

    · Adaware Anti-virus

    · COMODO

    · Advanced SystemCare 11

    · Windows Defender

    · McAfee Security Scan Plus (which I don’t use) was downloaded with Adobe – not sure if that’s running in the background.

There was a Cleaner I used to have but uninstalled when it proved to be contaminated regardless from where it was downloaded from. So now I use Advanced SystemCare for cleaning (as well as Recycle Bin).

    I'll check out ADWCleaner...Thanks:)

    Thanks.

I backed off from MBAM after reading Microsoft website as I have a Laptop with Windows 10 and from what I read there, it didn't appear appropriate to use MBAM.

Currently running TimW's suggestion of ADWCleaner.

Already had Malwarebytes installed and ran this morning - showed no problems/infections.
ADWcleaner is currently running after loading following TimW's advice.

As mentioned earlier, I have Ghostery installed per advice from another MajorGeek's member a few months back, when annoying ads kept displaying on my screen...it solved that, but takes up time while cleaning.:(

Hopefully this ADWCleaner will resolve those annoyances which really slows down my computer.

    Again, Thank You.

    Cheers

    Installed UBlock Origin last week.

Guess I can try AdBlock if that will resolve these annoyances which really slow down my computer.

    Again, Thank You Tim:)

The only "solutions" I have found were to use Ublock in Firefox and Adblock in Chrome to connect with Yahoo.

You might try a different browser for comparison on yahoo.com. I use Pale Moon and just took a look at the yahoo homepage. Its a very busy place with pics and text, to say the least. I noticed information handlers, reported at the bottom of the screen, reported by the browser. Yet, they zipped right along with no delay. You can get Pale Moon here

Since my last Post, I have done the downloads, cleaned up, rebooted and found myself getting blocked all over, unable to move with everything hanging forcing me to hard boot...12 hours down getting no where, I have now removed Ghostery, UBlock and Adblock because I found programs I normally use were getting blocked including access to Microsoft.com site for downloads. Have also uninstalled and re-downloaded Chrome to get some clearance.

I'm now going to wipe everything, clean up and start from scratch with some ad blocks once the system is responding and more stable because right now I keep hitting walls and getting "Waiting..." messages that can take anything up to 40 mins in bottom left corner.

Thanks for your help...much appreciate it.

    Cheers

Thought I had noted in earlier post re "Pale_Moon" that it doesn't work for me as I have Windows 10 (this came up when I tried to download same).

Again, thank you for your time and assistance.

    FWIW...
I just logged onto Yahoo Mail with Mozilla Firefox 56.0.2 and uBlock Origin 1.14.20 (Windows 7).
No pop-ups, hanging, freezing, etc. And my PC'c hardware is mediocre at best.

As a note... I am using Pale moon in Windows 10 - no problem.

Did you accidently try to download and run the wrong bit size for your computer; e.g. 64 bit on a 32 bit machine? Else, I have no idea why Pale Moon wont work on your machine.

It sounds like you got something bad grabbed a hold. You could do the 'Read and Run me first' in the specialist forum. Believe it or not I had the worst grabber get me from the most innocent sites like 'Disney Cartoon Pictures' when looking for screen saver pictures for the second computer here. Chaslang, Tim or Dr. Moriaty could probably pin point something that needs addressing!

Hi Eldon - I've removed uBlock Origin amongst other stuff, did a full clean up, uninstalls, reloads, and got in deep for manual deletes blah blah blah since my last post and now all's good, running smooth and a lot faster without those nuisances.

    Cheers

    Thanks.

Hi, thanks for your post. As a rule I check reqs before any downloads. In many instances, the system is checked anyway before some apps are initialised for downloads.

Anyway, system now purring a lot faster, don't have the ads appearing and got rid of those nuisances while still with Yahoo.

Again, thanks for responding to my earlier posts.

    Cheers

Don't know how it happened - never open emails if I don't know the sender - regardless. Am always careful as to what I download and from where...unless it was something picked up from a friend's/known email address. Puzzle.

Anyway, it's taken me this long to go right through my laptop, done a lot of cleaning, exhausting but it's fine now - no problems with Yahoo anymore. Yeah!

    Cheers

s.yimg.com is where Yahoo stores its ads. I see that in my status bar from time to time.
I run Windows 7, have Palemoon and uBlockOrigin. I have it set to show me how many things it is blocking.
In Yahoo mail, with nothing new in my inbox so nothing to look at, it blocked 14 things. It would be much higher as I started opening emails and reading.

Thanks Plodr thought that might have been the case.

I have Chrome, so had added AdBlock. then during the massive cleanup I did earlier, UNINSTALLED it as I found it was removing some apps I needed showing as PUPS plus it was slowing me down horribly. So I've found alternatives which for now appear compatible within MS, W10 and my laptop makeup, done the trick speeding things up and I continue cleaning (getting "housemaids knees" in the process:D). I reckon I probably had too many apps - now I have what's needed, housekeep a little more regularly than usual to keep things running smoothly and quick.

I might look at AdBlock again later when I get time.

    Cheers

I don't use chrome nor run Windows 10.

I do have AdBlockPlus installed in IE for the few rare occasions that I have to fire it up.
