How to route a printer through my Anti-Virus?

So, I have a question. When I try to print something off in open office I get this erroe saying "No Default Printer" and it does not give me the option to select a printer. The issue has to do with my Comodo Firewall, because when I disabled it the printer worked.

So how do I set up my printer or Anti-Virus so I do not have to disable it to print everytime?

I have a Dell Vostro laptop, that is running windows 7. The printer I have hooked up is an HP officejet J4580 All-in-one, plus another printer at home that I forget the model number of.

    Thank you!

    Is this a network/shared printer?

You should not have to disable anything. I would start by ditching Comodo and just use the built in firewall in whatever OS you are using, if it is Windows 7, you have a good firewall. As for A/V, Microsoft Security Essentials is a very good lightweight OS.

Going back to the problem, what are you trying to do? Share the printer with other computers?

If the printer is being accessed over a network Comodo may block the traffic. dependet on your OS I may agree with removing Comodo. Vista and 7 have pretty good firewalls but the one in XP use to be pants. If you access the net from behind a NAT router then the hardware router will do a better job than a software router. Only risk then is if you connect your laptop to other public networks.

Sorry, I haven't gotten back to you about the printer -it has been a very busy week. I have had some other issues since I originally posted this though.

I was having some troubles with the HP Solution center for hp officejet 4500 g510a-f, so I figured I would uninstall it and reinstall it (I have the original CD). When I try to reinstall it, it does not automatically launch. I go into my D Drive, click on set up, and the add a device or install more software and I get a ACCESS DENIED "wStub" "590046" error.

I also tried downloading the driver online, but it is not installing correctly.

As for the original problem. It is a network. And I use the Comodo as an Anti-Virus because it was recommended on this site LOL.

comodo antivirus wont block network traffic. Comodo Firewall may.

You havn't said what OS you are using but Win7 Security Centre will allow you to change firewall settings depending on what network you are on. When you are on your home network I dont personally believe that you need a software firewall on as you are behind a NAT firewall which is far more effective. Any devices on the LAN are within your own control so the risk is minimal.

You may want to have your firewall on when accessing public networks as you have no control over these and anyone can access them (and potentially your PC)

Well, thanks to the advice on here all my printers are in working order. Basically it was the Comodo Anti-Virus that was causing all the issues, so I ditched it and downloaded AVG. I know some people that have mixed feelings about AVG but for the type of surfing I do I am sure it will be fine.

    I appreciate all your comments.

Glad you got it sorted. Not sure that I would have chosen AVG as it is massively bloated when compared to Microsoft Security Essential. I would have gone with Brownizs suggestion but that your choice of AV is entirely up to you
