How To Send Files To Other PC In House With Vista????

I want to share files on my computer and another computer in the house. I am not on wireless internet. We are both on Vista OS. I am new to Vista so I do not know how to set up a home network. I have a cable router that connects us to the internet but I prefer not to go through the router because for some reason when I try to do this it takes the firewall down and won't let me turn it back on. That makes me nervous as hell!!!

But if it must be that way ... then so be it.

Just really need to get these files to her computer and I don't have a flash drive large enough. It's our entire music collection and almost 100 gigs!!! It would be WAY easier to connect to her computer directly from mine and send them through that way.

    Don't you think?

Can you please help me to do this?? I tried to do it myself but Vista confuses me. Only been using it for a few weeks so it's still very new to me and I don't get alot of what it does.

When I tried to change the settings it still says I need a password to connect to her computer and she needs one to connect to mine. We don't use passwords so we have no idea what password it's talking about.

Do any of you know how to walk me through this?? I'd appreciate it very VERY much!! :) :) :)

That sounds odd to me. What model is your router? Do you have a modem and a router, or is it a combo unit? Are both computers connected directly to the router for Internet access?

    It's a Linksys
    Wireless B Broadband Router

We are both connected to the router with Ethernet cords and get internet that way.
We have a modem and a router
It's a dsl modem .. connected directly to router and router connected directly to both computers

I've got both computers in the same workgroup (I think)

But when I click to open the files on her computer it asks for user name and password

I set up a user account for myself on HER computer and then I password enabled it (thinking that's what it wanted me to do)

I added my username and password in file sharing

But I can't access her files from my computer and she can't access my files from her computer without being prompted to using a password.

We used the user names and passwords we use to log into windows.

    It doesn't work.

    It says wrong password/user name.

    What the hell???

WHY IS THIS SO DAMNED DIFFICULT????
