I wish to access my pc and control it from another room...there must be a way of doing this now, and without cables.
Is there a method yet to send signal via ethernet thru house electrical system?
And use of an a eye/sender to control with mouse/keyboard?

Note: i don't want to setup up a PC besiide a TV.
I would like to do this to two TVs in house.
One is a Samsung SMART TV other isn't, reason for this is SMART TV is crap, though it plays files, use of internet/browsing and control of such is yet atrocious, as theer no mouse control or easy way to input text, and if you do it is all VERY slow.

    Hi

Not seen what you are wanting off-hand as you would need a VGA or HDMI cable plugged in from your PC to TV to get the PC screen on TV, then you would need a really good Wifi or Bluetooth keyboard/mouse to control the PC.

Powerline is good for getting ethernet to a network enabled TV or media device via the home electrial system, and I use this one HERE from Netgear at home, but these are just network and internet, they allow the TV to get the likes of BBC iPlayer if the TV has it, as your Samsung will, and then also allow you to connect to your PCs HDD if you are network sharing media.

They do not control the PC.

maybe this is the type of device you are after HERE I have no experience with these so dont know how good they are, maybe someone else does and can help you.

On this bit and I know how slow the Smart TV can be, do you have a smart phone as in iPhone, Samsung etc or even an iPod Touch? as Samsung have a app to control SmartTVs that allows text input via a keyboard.

I'm not much help here but maybe it wil spark some other advise for you.

Thanks, that McTivia looks like the job, will investigate further, maybe someone else can provide more info. Looks like it does the control.

I currently have powerlines, but don't need as wifi is satisfactory to play media on TV from internet & PC, its just that SMART TVs are sh1te, and I am looking for a better experience, i.e. better to browse on TV and control PC from TV.

Although I am not an apple fan, if they made these TVs I'm sure they would be exceptional and do what they are meant to!

I would nearly wire HDMI cables to both TVs, but they don't suit to thread in existing household ducting/trunking, and don't do the control.....surely this is the way to go though...one household PC...will save power consumption and costs than having multiple PCs (I can't stand it when idiots say to put an old PC beside your TV!!) and/or media adaptors.

There is no easy way to access a computer and control it, through say a application like Teamviewer, without having a device that could run the program. Extenders like the Xbox 360, Blu-ray players, PS3, etc. will allow you to play back files like music, some videos and that is it. If you are planning on working at your tv with your computer, suggest using a keyboard and mouse that is Blue-Tooth capable and a video card that has HDMI output, so you can connect the computer through HDMI over Cat-6.

As for the Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, you should be able to get at least no more than 35 feet from the computer, less depending on the building materials the structure was made out of. There are also KVM switches that can be used over networking, that you can attach a keyboard and mouse, and then connect the KVM remote unit at the tv.

Am resurrecting this thread....is there a way to do this now?
Connect (preferrably wired) PC to TV in another room, and play its media, and also have control via mouse cnnect through an eye system (like SKY tv)?

I don't want to use another PC, or an extender, nor the SMART TV controls which are uselessly slow.

Chromecast is now the way to go.

Yeah, have early version of that (an android hdmi stick), but it is laggy and has poor control....was looking for better.

Have you considered buying a used or refurbished PC and networking it to the other PC(s) in your home?

I've seen older Pentium Dual Core units with genuine Win 7 Home as low as $130 at my suppliers. Add in a USB WiFi adapter (about $15) to connect to your router. If your TV is a flat screen that has a VGA port, all you need are a VGA and audio cable. If it only has HDMI, add a low-end video card with HDMI output ($30-$40).

You are talking about something unrelated. If you wish to continue this discussion, start a new thread.

The Chromecast is for streaming from the Google Chrome browser, to a HDMI capable tv, that the device is plugged into. The computer, smartphone, tablet with the Chrome Cast app on it, has to be on the same network as the ChromeCast.

As for the said device you are talking about, not the same as the Chrome cast, so why even bring that into the picture.

Isn't this smurph's thread?:confused I personally would leave the direction of the thread to the OP.

Thanks - but i don't want a PC beside my TV, nor the extra noise, cables and power consumption, and hassle of booting etc., and have stated so 3 times in this thread already.

As I said, I have the earlier version of the chromecast, and it streams all media from PC to TV, wired or wireless options, but doesn't have the same control.
Simply, I want to see or replicate my PCs screen on my TV, and control via a mouse (the latter part Chromecast does have).

Just can't believe this hasn't been made readily available yet....I just want one PC, and to be able to view & control easily from TV located elsewhere.

Again, it has been made. All we are doing, is going around in circles, because you will not hear what we have stated.

You're not listening...i don't want a laggy badly controlled option....I want my remote TV to be another monitor, that views my desktop, and be able to control with a mouse...all working in same real time as if i was at the PC....what option does exactly that?

Nah not come up with anything yet, but weird asss suggestion that I normally do at this time of year is something I need to test myself and use as I can my Surface tablet to connect to the Desktop that has 3TB or storage for media and stuff and then have the Surface use "Play To" to, to play media or use the WiFi of the TV to clone the desktops screen.

Something I may try out in the next few days as I only thought of it now, re-reading this thread and is a concept, but something for you to look into yourself in has anyone else tried this sort of remote connection.

Although all options above assume Windows 8.1 on the desktop and tablet (thinking a tablet is like a large remote as I can play media easily from the Surface tablet to my Samsung TV fine, not tested with remoting to desktop also).... out there thought and may fizzle-out.

BUT I fear or know more in that to get a desktop Windows on a TV your really need to have HDMI connected to one of the ports, could do this with a tablet but its similar to what you don't wish to do with a old desktop media centre box, so without long HDMI from desktop to TV, I have no options, just possible's

Seem to have this sorted, trying this out, seems to need wired for video performance....don't know why they sell it wifi then!

I've been wondering what you think your controller I/O devices are. Are you thinking of having a QWERTY keyboard (probably with a touchpad)? Or are you thinking of a TV Remote? Or both?

I'm assuming (where's RustySav?!!) that you'll also want to sit in that other room at times and 'drive' your PC more normally.

DavidGP's Long Long HDMI Cable will be one piece of the puzzle. Then some powerful wireless QWERTY keyboard-touchpad (Alesso's are $100 but are small, useful and can have powerful transmitters for a larger coverage range - but they're not perfect and are still bound by distance and interference issues). When you mention slow and sluggishness, though, I don't quite understand what devices located at greater distances with greater inference possibilities can be anything BUT slower and more sluggish than "being right there".

We do the opposite - we have the PC as a media-center so the HDMI cable is short - and then we have file- and service-sharing from that media center's hard drives to other devices in the house.

Thanks, I haven’t decided on controls yet, but likely get keyboard & mouse, so that I can drive PC normally as you say, and maybe a remote.

The device sits by the TV, and connected via short HDMI cable, and connects to PC via network - I’m going to use TP link plugs (or wifi), and controls can be done locally wireless with USB receiver in rear of device.
All similar to previously suggested Android TV stick, but designed for the job with much improved control and picture, though not perfect.

As stated I don’t want a PC here.
