Hello, i'm just wondering what I need to do to setup an apache public server. I am running on a router and have already port forwarded everything. I have tried many many MANY things and can still not get it to work. It works for me but I had a friend try it and he cannot get into it, says page cannot be found. If someone could write me a quick little walkthrough that'd be excellent.:p

    Thanks in advance!

Well your biggest problem is more then likely you isp is blocking incoming port 80 hince no connection via your friend, but it working internally, doesn't matter if port forwarding is correct but your isp blocks it. So first questin is who provides your internet connection? Lets start there before we dig into the apache configuration.

My ISP is Persona Cable Internet located in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada.

    Blocked Port List
21/TCP - FTP. FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. This is the protocol used to transfer files over the Internet. We block this port to stop worms, which spread via exploitable flaws in ftp daemons.

25/TCP - SMTP. SMTP stands for Simple Mail Transport Protocol. This is the protocol that mail servers use to exchange email. We block this in order to prevent customers from running open relays could potentially be used by others to send Spam via the the Amazing Persona network.

80/TCP - HTTP. HTTP stands for Hypertext Transport Protocol. This is the protocol web browsers use to communicate with web servers. Blocking port 80 can stop many destructive worms that spread via security holes in web server software.

137 - 139 - Netbios. Netbios is used for file and printer sharing. These ports are blocked to stop worms which spread via open file shares.

Theres the issue, now if using apache you can easily tell it to use a different port like i personaly use 81, then your friend to use yourip:81 (or the port you choose and forward) and it will work, Good luck any other questions/problems let me know. Also don't forget to open the firewall ports you change to as well
