How to solve this HDD problem

Receive message S.M.A.R.T primary HDD bad, replace and remove.
From reading, I know that my HDD i going to fail. How do I go about replacing it base on the below information. Apologies as I am really not tech savvy.


I have a HDD that has 2 partitions ie C and D. C drive is where the programs are started etc and D drive is where I save my files.

1) From the above error message, am I correct in assuming that its my C drive that has problems and not D drive?

2) Is it possible to retire/disable C drive and repartition D drive into 2 partitions (eg: D & E drives) where D drive is where programs etc are started from and E drive is where I save all my files?

3) If so, how do I go about doing it and will it cause me to lose all my saved data?

To me, the S.M.A.R.T. message says the drive itself is going bad, not just the "C" drive, as even though they are partitioned, it is still one drive. If I were you, I would start backing up your "D" drive as you say this has your files on it. Get a USB Flashdrive and copy your files to it. Then, I would buy a new harddrive, and then try to "clone" your "C" drive to it. There is software here on the MajorGeeks site for cloning:

The first thing I would do is back up all important data
Next run HDD manufacture diagnostic utility, if your HDD passes disable SMART in BIOS, if fails purchase or warranty replacement of HDD
