    Greetings,
I am totally unfamiliar with Android phones.
I do have a micro-usb card which flashes and lights up when I connect it to my Neighbours phone.
I want to copy the photos from the phone to the USB card but have no idea what to do.
Could you point me towards a link which will help.
    Many thanks,
    Truly confused,
    s.

Ended up connecting the phone to a Widows laptop and copying the files onto the USB stick.
Still interested in the correct way.
    regards,
    s.

if the phone has a file browsing system (most androids do) it will ask you if you want to store your downloads on internal HDD or SD, simply choose SD then download directly to it, or use the file browser to cut and paste them to the SD card folder from the internal HDD folder where the files are originally.

i personally just usb to a computer and drag o drop for simplicity like you did.

Does your phone have a slot for the micro sd card?

My tablet does and using the browse folders method, I could simply move songs, photos and books to the card in the slot because it shows up as a storage device.

Please post the brand and model of phone.

I suspect if you want to store things on a USB device, you need an OTG cable. Then you plug the USB device into that so it shows up.

I won't know until you post brand and model if your device allows OTG (On the Go). My tablet does.
One end is a micro USB and the other is the normal USB. I have connected a USB hub, a mouse, a USB stick and an external portable hard drive to my tablet.

Thank you plodr, I have one of those. The phone, which is not mine turns on with EE. My neighbour is soon to get a new phone on his contract and so I wanted to store his photographs.
When I connect the above cable with a usb flash drive connected to the 'usb end' the light on the drive starts flashing and then stays on. The same response to when it connects to a laptop.
I just have no idea for to find the Android equivalent of 'file explorer'.
    Thanks for your time,
    s.

    This will help.
Whether the photos are on the phone's Internal Storage or the SD Card, the easiest is to connect it to a PC and copy the photos to a folder.

I have a yellow file folder on my desktop.

Here's a shot of a different android device with a file folder. File Manger launcher.jpg

But as Eldon said, just connect the phone to his computer and copy the photos into a folder there.

    It scares me.
I don't know what the pictures mean.
How do I copy files and paste them into the usb port?
    I have a question but don't see a solution.

Part 2 Move Pictures from Android to SD
    1. Launch the file manager/ file explorer application
    2. Go inside your phone's memory
    3. Navigate to the location of the photos you want to move.
    4. Open the folder and select the photos you want to move.
    5. Tap the app's menu and use the “Move” option
    6. Go to the SD card memory location.
    7. Paste there whatever you move

In truth my 84 year old neighbour is more scared.
I have been working with computers since the early eighties. The plan is always to develop a procedure but I am confused by smart phones.
Perhaps one day I will own one.

    Follow the blue mouse pointer.
Click Apps > File Manager > All files > Internal Storage > DCIM > Camera > Move > Select all > Move > SD card > DCIM > Camera > OK.

    You're welcome.
The instructions is the 'correct' way.
Connecting the phone to a PC and copying the photos from Internal storage to SD card is the easy way.

I took the attached folder from my Desktop. And copied it to my SDcard USB connection. The android phone could see the files but they didn't open.
    I am a little puzzled.

I just did the same and I see all the files.
    What format are those files?

fat32. or do you mean JPG?
Created from Paint.cut and saved As.
the phone wouldn't open them. It saw them as JPG's.
    Puzzled.

I'm uploading an archive that contains a folder with 10 jpeg (file extension .jpg) files. Extract the folder from the archive and then copy it to the phone. The folder's name is Cars.

Perhaps I should format the micro-SD card from the phone. It might all feel happy.
    Another time.

Always a good idea if it contains no important files.
