never thought I would need help with this.
To avoid 'greyware" I need to wipe office 2000 off a machine being redeployed. Went to "add/remove" and hit the switch, it barfed and said it needed the CD, I installed the ORIGINAL Office 2000 CD from whence instance 1 of it was first installed, and it barfed again. Looked through knowledgebase articles, and only find the executable utility for removing leftover fragments from a partial uninstall..... nothing about this particular problem.

apparently once you move to SP3 you've left the legacy portions behind and the setup routine can't execute. But how? what do I do?

is there a 3rd party freeware UNinstaller that will do the trick?

these guys make it too hard.....

No, that kb article does not describe the symptoms. Let me try again [dontcha know that "barfed" is a software engineering term?]

If I try to uninstall from the Control panel add/remove, it appears to initiate normally, but then it asks for the CD. When I put the CD in [the very same used to originally install MO 2000 sp1 to this rig] it stops saying it cannot find a certain file [ms1 or something similar syntax]. NO getting past this point. no options. Similarly, if I run "setup" from that CD, it stops with an error.
I am hazarding a guess that the changes from SP1 to SP3 are sweeping enough that all the install-routine files have changed, especially as regards Win98 since it is not considered anymore.

    Any third party utilities??????

    Bummer ....barfarooney ...boat/lack of paddle/river, etc.:) :)
Have done a very exhaustive search ( well exhaustive for a 1 yr. old) and can not find a third party uninstall anywhere ...very little on how to uninstall with sp3 ....the only option I can think of ( one that I have had to do before) is to open the office folder and delete everything in it ...or as much as you can ...then go to the registry and find any reference to office and delete those keys (MAKE A RESTORE POINT before all this!!!) then run CCleaner to try to do the rest ...both cleaner and issues and make a backup when prompted.

    CCleaner:

You may be able to reinstall after deleting as many files as possible, and then do a proper uninstall.
