I've been setting up a computer with windows me running on it. However, there's a folder on the desktop called Startup that has no useful function for my purposes (I think). It wont go in the trash can. Is there any way to make it disappear?

    Hi cat5,

Don't know if this is exactly what you're looking for, but you might want to check out fixyourwindows.com for info on this. Check out the Optimize Windows section.

BE ADVISED THAT VENTURING INTO THE EDITING OF THE REGISTRY IS NOT FOR NEWBIES OR THE FAINT OF HEART!! ; )

    Hope this helps.

    Hi PP,
thanks for that link...that's quite an article...I've added it to my favorites list. However, I couldn't find anything that might end the current annoyance with the Startup folder. Actually, I don't care if the folder lives, I just want it off my desktop....it won't drag off.

    Hi Paul,

Hopefully you've conquered this by now! :) If not, about all I can offer are a few obvious ideas that probably occurred to you long ago. I'm no expert and it's been a long time since I've seen Win ME! Most of my expertise comes from messing up my computer and then having to fix it!

Since it is a Startup Folder, I imagine you cannot delete it because it contains running processes. You may have to boot in safe mode or disable the processes in startup via msconfig. I don't know why it won't vacate your desktop. Two questions that might help:

    What is in the folder?

What error message do you get when you try to delete it?

    Best luck,
    PP

    Hi Phillie,
I discovered that I could drag it into C:\, where it now resides without a whimper....curiously, there is another startup folder in C:\, from the very first set-up in 2001. At any rate, it's off the desktop.....thanks for your help.
