How trustful are you of people you consider a friend?

Well, I guess before answering that question, one probably needs to look at exactly who they consider a friend. Then just how trustful that friend actually is.

But how can you actually measure this?

Particularly when there are those who gain your trust, only to have it shattered when too late you discover they really were never your friend, but rather a treacherous, deceitful liar and a cheat who abused your trust.

And worst still – if they actually get away with it and there’s nothing you can do about it but put it down to experience – lesson learned.

So, how does one identify – if ever – a person under the guise of a friend – which leads back to – how trustful are you of people you consider a friend?

For me, I trust them completely. So far it's worked out for me and I haven't been hurt as far as that's concerned. I am a few really good friends type person so don't let people in readily. Once I do, I am completely loyal and trustful (kind of like a dog :D).

So I suppose I don't trust people outright right away. I do tend to think the best of people though.

I doubt you can ever guarantee you won't get hurt by someone you trust completely. I'd imagine it happens in marriages all the time. Hopefully when someone is hurt like that, it's a one time anomaly and it doesn't shape the rest of their friendships/relationships. If that happens, they'll be looking for things and that's never a way to form a close bond and could create the situation that they are worried about.

Definitely not by a one size fits all standard. Friendship is defined by the person who's friend it is. I'd imagine everyone wants something different out of it, therefore measures it differently. Some people don't ask much, some people ask too much, some are users and measures it by what they get out of their friend, some are codependent. I'd think the more equal the friendship in give and take, the best chance of it working out for the long haul.
