HP 2510 all-in-one "lockup" at start

Help!
Sometime ago I got to your site and read some information on helping your readers with the 2510 all-in-one locking up at the start--that is as the carriage is setting itself and the image bar resets on the scanner, the machine will not properly set itself and begins banging away, until it is unplugged. I have tried "walking the scanner across the glass by starting and stopping the maching (pulling the plug and putting itself in again) this time it is not working, any suggestions?
