I got this HewletPackard dx2300 microtower, fresh out of the box, and having problems with the drivers. I installed the OS b4 the motherboard cd, the sound and network devices dont work. The network device doesnt pose a major problem. Its the sound that Im about. In device manager, it doesnt show; only codecs, legacies and cdrom are there. In control panel sounds, all greyed out/unclicable. While installing the UAA sp30301, i get error message "contains ver 1.0a of U.Aud, needs to close, send error report?" But i assume sp30301 is also sp32392. But still no sound. I uninstalled and reinstalled in the right order; chipset, UAA, then realtek. No sound.
There's these stull i found here in your forums, i downloaded them and will run and post results (everest, pc wizzard). Ill also try uninstalling with the driver cleaner i found. Meanwhile, help.
Then this laptop, packardbell easynote F5287, came with Home Edition installed. It crashed, and someone helped my absence by running SP2. Sound died, had to download new drivers, now its up. But the screen backgrounds, in desktop and in programs, looks all fuzzyred/pink/purple. Cant watch videos - tooo blurred, everything else works. Tslyke no one else has ever had this problem, cant find anything on it. So much for product support. Drivers are up. Settings as before, as should be. What should I do?

I already have been there and read, and downloaded severally. So much for emailing them, guess they are too busy. The product identification stage in there wont take my serial for a number. The chat thing wont start, and there is no advice available for my problem. If I gave you my s/n and p/n, I bet you still wont get through - maybe they jus dont do Afro? And they are better than packardbell!
Ill post everest results later today.

It's very strange that you get no response.

I have a desktop HP pavilion a6340 and have had good response from HP when i have needed it.

Believeme, I always try whenever I can. I just tried again, now that you asked. Then again, I am using a slow connection. But that cant be the reason, can it. Ill post the everest results in two hours. See what you can do.

    On the HP,
check that onboard sound is enabled in the BIOS.
Restart your PC. As the PC restarts, press F2. (Before Windows starts loading)
Tap it until you enter set-up, then look for your audio (it should be in Advanced or in Integrated Peripherals)
Make sure sound is set correctly, when finished.
For Onboard Sound (Enabled) For an add-on Sound Card (Disabled)

Check that Windows Audio Service is started.
    Go to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services
Scroll down the list of services until you find the Windows Audio service.
Right click on it and choose Properties.
Make sure it is set to Automatic and Start is checked.

    Look in Device Manager>System Devices.
Is the MS UAA Bus driver listed there? (or Realtek HD Audio Controller)

Is your HP running XP or Vista?

    If XP,
First, go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the Realtek Audio, if it is there.
    Install your chipset again,
    Intel Chipset Support for Windows

    Then install the UAA:
Microsoft Windows XP SP2 Universal Audio Architecture Update (Q888111)
    Then your driver:
    Realtek High-Definition Audio Driver

Let's work with the HP first, get it running right then move to the PB.

In my very first post, I may have indicated that I already tried reinstalling in that order, and it didnt work. But I will try again, maybe I will run a driver cleaner first. Which one is best?
I did everest, my audio device is Intel 82801GB ICH7-HighDefAudioContr A-1. Full report coming soon.
I would be posting replies in real time, but I am not connected on that machine. Its far - too bad. Please bear with me.

I've never used a drive cleaner and really have no idea which to recommend.

If you check in Add/Remove, you should see any installed drivers. You can delete the audio ones there.
Also, you might want to run CCleaner (Cleaner and Registry tools) before your reinstalls.
