I have a HP DK581AR laptop that orginally the HD had gone out in it, I replaced the hard drive in it and now I can't get it to boot at all. I plugged in the ac power adapter thinking that maybe the battery wasn't charged and there for it wouldn't turn on that way, but still no luck. I even tried taking the battery out of it and running it strickly off of the ac adapter, but again no luck. I can't get it to power on at all, and I was able to orginally. I've check all my cables inside the laptop and nothing. Does anyone have any ideas as to things I could try? Any ideas would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

If you cannot see the light on the laptop lighting when AC is applied, then that may mean that the unit is dead and a nice doorstop or boat anchor.

I can see the light for the AC adapter, but nothings coming on. Thanks anyway for the effort.

Try pushing the reset button on the bottom of the unit.

I don't profess to know anything about Laptops. So this may be a redundant statement, and I don't mean to insult. But are you sure you hooked up the hard drive correctly? I can'y imagine it to be difficult, or that much different from one in a desktop. the interface, and the power supply. It's like working on motors (i'ma Nissan Mechanic) go through the basics first.

On majority of laptops, there is only one way to put in the hard drive, unless you actually Jam it into the interface. Unlike a desktop where you can put the drive cable on upside down and not know until you boot, laptops have only one way to put the drive in, otherwise you blow the drive.

There are times that I have come across cables that do not have the red strip, and are actually just a small set of dots on the cable to designate pin 1.
