:-o I've been looking around at different web sites for the right monitor and realized its going to take awhile to find the right monitor with the right connections and the right price. rolleyes I'm also thinking it might be wiser to go into a store and find the monitor that way.

:confused So I was wondering if this DVI to VGA cable adapter that I found on Amazon would be safe to use for a temporary solution until I can find the right monitor?

    http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-DVI-...&ie=UTF8&qid=1369736847&sr=1-6&keywords=dvi-i

Or would this be safe to use? http://www.amazon.com/Accell-UltraA...8&qid=1369738281&sr=1-46&keywords=vga+to+hdmi

You wouldn't happen to know if any cables with the VGA port from the monitor to the DVI-I port of the computer that I have seen on Amazon would work?
Or if there are any VGA to HDMI cables that would be compatible?
Or should I just stick with the adapter I mentioned above?

    michlconk...

Since your current monitor is not DVI-I (or any other type) compatible, none of the adapters would work for you right now, even though your video card supports DVI-I.

I think that's a good idea to at least take a look at a store. Then you can buy online or whatever. I think that as long as the monitor you buy is DVI-I compatible that it will have an adapter in the box, but I am not sure. Check carefully and read the contents of the box of any you might buy online to make sure that it will work with DVI-I when you receive it in the mail. That might be another reason to go to a store. You can ask to see.

When you do go to a store (if you do), make sure that you mention that your video card has a DVI-I connector and a VGA connector. They should be able to point you in the right direction. I am seriously almost positive you will be able to plug any DVI-I capable monitor directly into the DVI-I connector on your graphics card without an adapter...or at least that there will be an adapter in the box. If not, you can buy one at the store...

Of course, you can also use the trip to the store to gather the facts on what will be in the box of a DVI-I capable monitor and then buy online, too..

Just remember it's DVI-I, not any of the other types of DVI...

:cry Well that sucks, I was hoping for a temporary solution until I found the monitor, but thank you.

:-D I have everything written down. What my monitor is and that its VGA only, and what my computer is and that it has VGA, HDMI, and DVI-I. I even drew what the DVI-I looks like (rolleyes in case the person I'm talking to doesn't know what it looks like). :major So hopefully I'm ready.
