HP Omnibook xe4100 & PCMCIA MTD-0002

I have a HP xe4100, and out of the blue it drops off my wireless NIC and when i attempt to reinstall it or get it to function period, the device manager registers the PC card as a " PCMCIA MTD-0002" and i cannot install any drivers for it or get it to function period. Has my PCMCIA adapter gone the way of the Dodo bird? Should I give it last rights?

I have tried several different models of PCMCIA Wireless NIC's and none of them register as what they truely are. They all show up as PCMCIA MTD-0002...
