a week ago my audio started cutting out. the speaker icon on my taskbar appeared with the red dot with the white X and when i scroll the cursor over it, I get the message "No audio output device installed" . I went to see what was wrong in Device Manager to find that Sound, Video and Game Controllers was missing. I tried reinstalling the audio driver, but I couldn't and got an error message saying "No media device", the driver will not work. PLZ HELP! I can't listen to music.

FYI: My computer is an HP Pavilion dv6500 series notebook and runs on Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit SP1.
    THANKS

I hate to be the harbinger of bad news, but this series laptop has known heat issues, and that led to various issues with the motherboard. HP is aware of it, and they really were pricks about any warranty issues. Many people had theirs "repaired", only to have new issues, or a recurring one.

They did put out a BIOS update which would turn on the fan at idle, but it was only described as "preventitive", which in warranty code means "good luck".

Many of this series I have dealt with, the wireless usually went down first, then other things followed until it was kaput.

    Sorry...
