    Hey Everyone,
Not sure you can help but i have to try, i am losing my mind with this. My son has an hp pavillion running xp home. He wanted to do a full system recovery returning his pc to factory settings. I have done this before so thought nothing of it. Put in disk 1 and was moving right along. Told him to keep adding the cds as they were asked for. he did, got to cd 3 and boom everything went wrong, got an error message but couldn't read becuz it was gone as fast as it showed up. Okay didn't panic, put disk one back in to see if that would kick it back in, came up with an error message that read, no os recovery cannot proceed. I am stumped. no clue what to do next. any advise would be appreciated. went to hp website for help, hahaha.
    Thanks,
    Phyllis

did you have enough hard drive space, maybe there was a flaw in the cd.,you may have to reformat it and reinstall with the xp cd..as a last resort..can you go to dos to give you more clues there with a boot up cd or floppy disk.

    Hi Scott
Thanks for the info, i haven't tried the dos thing yet but will. don't have xp cd, just the recovery disks that were sent from hp. doubt that the cd's are flawed, but can't be sure of course. since the os was already deleted when the recovery started will i be able to use dos?

i thought you meant op systems there, sometimes i dont read into it right..you would need a xp cd to put an op system there, them recovery disks doesnt work that way.make sure to set cd bootable first in the bios bfore when you do get a xp cd.

well, i have done this before with these disks, when he wanted to wipe the pc clean.
It went fine. put xp back in and all. these cd's are suppose to have it all on them and from what i could see the first time around they did. i think we might be crossing wires somewhere...lol...not sure
basically where i sit right now, the recovery process started, then went south. during thepart that ran, it did wipe out the hard drive and operating system. now when i insert the 1st cd it says operating system is gone can't proceed, well dur, the cd's wiped it out. lol what i am wondering is how i can get this process started again so that it will do what it is suppose to do. hope that helps
