hp pavillion laptop dont read my lg dvd burner properly

my hp pavillion laptop reads my lg dvd burner at 2x but it is an 8x dl + or - and burns cds at 24x. i put this burner in a dell and a gateway and it worked at full speed on these other laptops. i updated the aspci and firmware in burner and hp laptop has latest bios. any ideas?

 

What program are you burning with in the HP? Perhaps it hasn't been updated for that particular drive. If you could post the model of both the laptop and the DVDRW, we may be able to offer some better advice....

 

the pc is a hp pavillion xh555 laptop and the burner is a LG but i cant find a model number. i have used nero 6 ultra and roxio but they will not read the cd or dvd media at the right speed whether i burn the disk or play them back. this burner works properly in my old gateway solo 2150 with either copy of nero or roxio. the disk that came with the burner had nero 6 plat. and a firmware upgrade program, i tried the other nero but saw no differance. the firmware program upgraded the firmware to its latest version. the laptop has the newest bios already installed and i installed the newest aspi update. i pulled the burner from my desktop and plugged it in the usb and the laptop read the 16x dvd burner properly and burnt some disks at 12x.

any advice would be appreciated :confused
