Hp Pavillion N5150 HardDrive Partition

<SPAN style="COLOR: black">I have an Hp Pavilion N5150 laptop; it has a 9 gig hard drive in it. I was booting my windows (ME) and I an error something about a windows protection error. SO was I was ok OK ill reformat AGAIN I have done this about 5 times in the last 2 days b/c it keeps messing up (I load something wrong.. I try to load Xp... Stuff like that) but this time it has a really hard time partitioning it... so I wait... And wait... then when using the Norton Ghost utility the system recover disk comes with to reload it back to factory state it goes REALLY slow like not working and freezing... I run a diagnostics it comes with and it says something’s wrong with my IDE drive... I am not sure what is wrong... do I need to find some dos. Utility and use that to format it? Dose anyone even know any good ones? What else can I try? What can be wrong...? I don’t think the h/d would just die out on me like that but it may I don’t know...
