    Hi All

I'm having some issues with a HP Pavillion Sleekbook not booting,
    Specs:
    HP Pavillion Sleekbook 15
    Intel Core I5
    750GB HDD
    4GB Memory
Operaiting System, Unknown (It was Windows 8 according to sticker on the laptop nut unable to progress far enough to confirm.

Firstly the issue was an error message stating that there was an issue with the primary battery, to get past this point I removed the battery and just had the laptop plugged in all the time and this error disappeared.

But then I get the following error :(

Pressing F8 doesn't seem to achieve anything, ive pressed Esc and gone onto the HP assistant and run some of the component tests and got the following

If anybody has had similar experiences or can advise a way forward it would be greatly appreciated

    Best Regards
    Marc

From HP: Whenever the Hard Disk Short/Long DST test fails that indicates that the Hard Disk Drive has failed and that requires a replacement to resolve the issue.

    Thanks TimW,
I kind of thought as much when I ran that test and got the failed result :( The person who's laptop it is has been researching getting their files / documents off and they've been told to use something called Hirens boot (not sure if that's spelt correctly) Am I correct in thinking that this isn't going to work as the HDD has failed so the files will be inaccessible ??

Apparently, sometimes an antivirus can cause a similar problem- the actual error code is difficult to find, but from what I have studied- the hard drive may still be salvageable.
If you have data on it, that link from TimW could help you.
And Hirems boot cd, if you want it
