HP toolbox software - HPTLBXFX.EXE error

Prior to a few days ago, I had no problem with either my HP Laserjet P2015 or HP scanjet 5590 attached to my Microsoft XP system. Now, I get a HPTLBXFX.EXE error on booting up. HPTLBXFX.EXE sits in my C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\ToolBoxFX\bin folder. The error appears as three screens. SCREEN #1: After booting up, a blue bordered screen with a white background appears. In the upper left corner is a white x in a red circle. Below and to the right of that is "Win32NT - 5.1.2600.0" and below that is the OK button. SCREEN #2: After hitting the OK button, a screen appears which reads at the top "HPTLBXFX.EXE - Common Language Runtime Debugging Services" and below that is "Application has generated an exception that could not be handled. Process id=0x9fc (2556), Thread ide=0xa08 (2568)." SCREEN #3: Clicking CANCEL to debug the application brings up a third screen that reads "Registered JIT debugger is not available. An attempt to launch a JIT debugger with the following command resulted in an error code of 0x2 (2). Please check computer settings. cordbg.exe !a ox9fc." The options are to retry the JIT debugger request or cancel. How do I fix this problem?

 

I reinstalled my HP scanjet 5590 software yesteday. Apparently, the automatic updates is set to on. Today, my computer is ready to install "HP Memories Disc Creator - Software Update". In the past, whenever manually downloaded and I installed any HP update, my HP scanjet wouldn't work. As I recall, I installed an automatic update a few days ago by clicking on the yellow shield containing an exclamation mark without checking out what was being installed. I just assumen it was from Microsoft since I never had any other automatic updates download into my computer.

My HP scanjet works now. It takes me an hour to delete and reinstall the software for it. HP Memories Disc Creator - Software Update (http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c00047357#A0) says it is critical software.

My new question, should I install HP Memories Disc Creator - Software Update? I think HP Memories Disc Creator - Software Update caused the problem.

 

Hi again. The response I was hoping for was "YOU SHOULD NOT install HP Memories Disc Creator - Software Update!!!! You life will be turned upside down for the next four days because you will spend every waking hour trying to fix your computer."

Unfortunately, I didn't receive any such response and, yes, I installed HP Memories Disc Creator - Software Update and my life was turned upside down for the past four days. It got so bad that my e: and f: disc drives eventually refused to read the HP scanjet CD installation disc.

After much work, I eventually got my HP printer and my HP scanner working. I still had the same "Registered JIT debugger is not available" problem, but I was able to use my computer.

After reading the various proposed fixes listed in forum at http://p2p.wrox.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=8844&whichpage=2 , I just installed .Net Framework as follows:

"1. Break out your Win Xp CD.
2. Choose "Perform additional tasks" from the menu.
3. Choose "Install .Net Framework" from the secondary menu.
You'll have to reboot once during this.
4. Go to "Start > All Programs > Windows Update" to get .Net Framework Service pack 2 & .Net Framework Service pack 3 if they're not on your Xp installation CD."

That seems to have removed the problem (at least after one boot up).

 

Installing .Net Framework didn't fix the problem. Please help!
