I picked up an HP DAT, HP6400 2000, thinking I'd have no problem finding a driver for it-WRONG:eek: HP, as you might expect, has nothing: Any Ideas???

Are there any other serial or product/model code letters/numbers under the drive that could give a clue?

also which Operating System will the drivers be needed for?

The mental advice is good, and it's a lot cheaper then therapy. The O/S will be Winblows XP, and, believe it or not, NO additioanl info, not even a serial number. It's suspect now as it appears someone yanked that info off the bottom of the machine. I can say that they were in use only 10 years ago, typically as a means to transfer CAD data. Only 4 GIG, but they transfer fast and are convenient???? Thanks for the response!!!!!!!

as your using XP, have you tried the inbuilt scan for updated drivers? a long shot but well worth trying just in case.

I take it you have hooked up this drive to your PC already, goto Device Manager and no doubt their will be a yellow ! mark listing a possible unknown device, double click that and choose the Driver tab > Update Driver and choose "Yes this time only" > Next > Next ... it will go online to scan and hopefully pickup a driver from the MS database.

Is the drive internal or external.. only asking so it may help narrow a search down?

another option with the drive plugged in would be to use HPs scan tool http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html ( click the Start Detection button on the page )

Thanks for the help. I've tried just about everything including using Hp's DAT software for other models. I's an external, SCSI ~10 yr old DAT drive. I'm about to give it the Heave Ho! Don't need anymore hardware lying around.

Yeah its a pitty that these drivers are not easily come by now, I've tried to find a legacy driver area at HP that may list the older drives, but nope! sad as these do make great backup drives.

was going to suggest trying some of the other drivers, the Surestore 2000 seemed a possible.

only thing I can think of now is fire off an email to HP and ask for drivers, they must have them still for some business customers who still use these drives.
