Omg, I really need help,my comp wont let me play my games [esp. (SWG, Sims 2)] I previously had a problem with nvidia where i couldn't log onto my computer, after i did what the nvidia site told me to fix the issue, when i tried to play SWG it said "...32 video memory needed (detected 0)..." when i click ok it said "Direct3D could not be correctly initialized. Sometimes this will be fixed by rebooting your machine. If still occurs after a fresh reboot, you may need to reinstall DirectX" not only did i reboot and it not work, reinstalled also and it still didnt work, OMg, im going out of my mind with out swg, can someone plz plz plz help me?!??!?!?

    post your system specs.

heres what you need to do:

download Driver Cleaner from here http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3214.html

also download the latest drivers from the Nvidia website. www.nvidia.com

1.) go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall the Nvidia Display/Graphics drivers.

2.) Reboot and enter safe mode (tap f8 upon reboot).

3.) from safe mode, run driver cleaner, removing 'nvidia display' drivers

4.) reboot, install latest nvidia drivers.

ok, i downloaded the drive cleaner but the "download the latest drivers from the Nvidia website" part, im pretty scared about that, becuz im a newb with computers and the last time i messed with that site, i ended up not being able to log onto windows, so can u plz be specific with the downloading part on nvidia if its not to much trouble UNLESS that is what safe mode if for(which i hope it is)

    go here http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp

    select Grpahics Driver

    Choose GeForce and TNT2

    Choose your OS

    download the file.

save the file somewhere you can locate it easily (not the desktop, as in safe mode you might not see it if you log into an admin account).

follow the intructions I listed in the first post. make sure you select 'nvidia display' from the Driver Cleaner menu so you remove the correct drivers.

If done correctly as instructed above, the install should work just fine.

I have a problem, im most likely going to do what your saying but on another forum, someone told me to "In your Bios you can set the video aperature but don't do this until you know what your video memory is." Which one do yourecommend because i dont even know how to do that.

video, or more commonly 'graphics' aperature is just a BIOS setting relative to how much RAM your video card has. its not terribly important, especially for an older card, so you can pretty mucy leave it default. if you do want to change it, I would leave it at 64MB.

one of those instructions was where to find the latest nvidia drivers.

the other one explains how to go about installing them.

so first go to the nvidia website with the link provided and do what i said. then do the Add/Remove programs thing and follow the instructions to install new drivers

So there is a device conflict, you might have to cleanly uninstall the drivers. Then reinstall it.
DOES ANYBODY KNOW ANY DRIVER RESIDUE CLEANING/UNINSTALLING SOFTWARE.
Are you sure add/remove program does not work

You had the 2.42 driver kit,it caused problems, nvida understands this problem gives you a complicated method of how to get back to the 2.03 driver kits, you do it and you end up with device conflicts.

Is this right or is it something else?

  22. Valic

i really dont know what driver kit i have(i dont really know a lot about computers, just enough to use one), but that is what I was told to use by costomer service rep(CSR) at sony station

Does the driver kits include graphic drivers or other chipset driversl? Can you select to install only the graphic/display drivers?Or do you have a seperate graphic driver?

InYearsToCome:Could the nvida in the add/remove mean the chipset drivers rather than the display drivers?
Valic:I do not have any nvida device,Somebody who has the stuff can help you much better.
You must not uninstall other nvida drivers only the display driver, then you wont make any mistakes.

that is in the Chipset driver

@Valic, you still havent specified what video card you have (to my recollection)

please list your computer motherboard model # (since we know its an Asus Nforce2) and video card.
please do NOT list random information that some program has given you, as so far that has only told us which chipset and Operating system you are using.

if you don't see your video drivers in the add/remove then no ... if you see your video drivers there then yes

Also i saw you referring to an 'AGP host to PCI bridge' earlier. if that is missing drivers, you also might need to update your Chipset drivers, which can also be found on the Nvidia website here http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_udp_winxp_5.10

if this is the case, you would install this driver before the Video driver

    does
    "NVIDIA Drivers"
    or
    "NVIDIA Windows 2000/XP nForce Drivers"

contain video drivers? because that is whats in the add/remove
