I have a Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000-L motherboard and it says that it supports Hyper Threading. I am currently using a Pentium 4 2.4GHz Processor with HyperThreading. However, my HT is currently turned "off". I'm also noticing that my computer is starting to choke a lot when it normally doesn't and I think that by enabling HT, it should help relieve some of the choke. So, does anyone know how to? It seems that my motherboard is a discontinued model and I can't find any FAQs on how to do so on the Gigabyte website. Either that or I'm terrible at looking for these things.....

Anyways, if anyone can help me out, please do. I'm knowledgeable in computers, but I am not 100% familiar with all the different things that you can do with a computer, so I might not know what to do when an unfamiliar method comes up to hopefully help solve my problem. Because of this, it'd be greatly appreciated if whoever helps me out can provide some detailed steps for me to follow. Thanks in advance!

how do you know your hyperthreading is turned off? look at your task manager - performance tab and see if you see two panels for cpu - if so your ht is on. you can also check your bios - there should be a setting to enable / disable ht.

Post your complete system specs, including OS.
When your system chokes what are your doing?
Spyware/Virus & other bad things can choke your system.

Hyper Threading= over rated, bit of hype.
I have one P4 system, I find best performave when Hyper-Threading is Disabled.
    Enable/Disable in BIOS
Hyper-Threading is not recommended for Windows OS 2000 any version or eairlier

    System Specifications:
    Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000-L
Intel Pentium 4 2.4GHz with HT
    1GB PC3200 Ram 400MHz
    ATI Radeon 9600 Pro
    80GB Hard Drive
Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005

My system chokes when my page file goes above 350MB, which it usually does when I only have my Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, and Firewall programs on, and two other applications, like MSN and Steam/CS or something, and CS would choke and freeze for like half a second every couple of minutes.

I've done the full Spyware/Virus check that's posted here, so I don't think it's that that's choking my system.

Do you see as skiddyrow pointed out two CPUs listed in the Task Manager > performance?

What bios version are you on at present? only mention as the last one was FI Which updates cpu microcode, two ways of checking are use the gigabyte @bios tool that they should have supplied on the driver CD.

Enter your Bios and choose Advanced > CPU Hyperthreading > Enable/disable then honce chosen hit F10 and save the setting by choosing Y then to check hits once windows has loaded CTRL-ALT-DEL > Performance and you should see two CPU usage history graphs.

I'm pretty sure I'm using the GA 8IPE1000-L Rev 1.x because my BIOS version is currently at 6. The latest one is 12, so I think that would be the problem.... However, the website tells me to use QFlash to update my BIOS which wouldn't be a problem as that's quite straight-forward, but when I built this computer I didn't think I would have any use for a floppy drive so I didn't get one, and QFlash can only update from a floppy disk... Is there any other way I can update my BIOS? By the way, thanks for the help so far, and as to answer skiddyrow's question, no I do not see two CPUs listed, thus the reason I've continued to bump this thread.

Oh, and also... I can't seem to find my Motherboard CD... I'll keep looking though, but other than using QFlash or the CD... is there any way to update my BIOS? =S

Alright I downloaded the @BIOS program from the Gigabyte website and my BIOS is up-to-date, but I still don't have the option of turning on HT...

In the Advanced section of my BIOS, all I have is Hard Disk Priority (something of the sort), and the Boot 1, 2, and 3 and that's it... no CPU Hyperthreading...

I'll keep looking and if I figure it out I'll post it here.

I just downloaded the manual for your motherboard and had a good read, if you have a HT enabled P4 then that option would be avaiable if the P4 is not HT then it does not.

Are you 100% sure you have a P4 with HT? get yourself CPU-Z and find the CPU info data and then see if its a HT enabled P4.
